Modern Healthcare names 50 most influential physician leaders and executives

Every year, Modern Healthcare names 50 physician leaders and executives who are considered most influential in our health care system. You can see that list here. Not surprisingly, we see physicians who are leaders at some of the largest health care delivery systems, hospitals, government organizations, health insurance companies, professional medical societies, and more.

50 Most Influential Physician Executives - 2013 (Modern Healthcare)

Modern Healthcare has a list of "50 Most Influential Physician Executives - 2013"

The honorees were chosen by readers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician for their leadership in the varied sectors of the industry, whether provider organizations, government agencies, associations, insurers or supplier companies. This year's program is sponsored by Cejka Executive Search.

You'll see many familiar names like John Kitzhaber, Eric Topol, Farzad Mostashari, Regina Benjamin, Gary Gottlieb, Atul Gawande, Reed Tuckson, Margaret Hamburg, Elliott Fisher, and many others.

I think it would be very interesting to put all these names on a map. We would probably see a heavy representation from the East Coast.

Make sure to vote in the "50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare" (formerly the 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives in Healthcare) recognition program. Modern Physician and sister publication Modern Healthcare co-sponsor this annual recognition program.

My friend Harry Greenspun is running and he's Senior adviser, healthcare transformation and technology
Deloitte Center for Health Solutions.

There are a number of highly-influential physician executives on this list. You can read about their affiliations here.

50 Most Powerful Physician Executives for 2010

Modern Healthcare / Modern Physician has published its annual list of "50 Most Powerful Physician Executives." You won't be surprised to see that Dr. David Blumenthal, the national coordinator for health information technology at HHS, holds the No. 1 spot on this year's ranking.

You can view the photo gallery of the "50 Most Powerful Physician Executives - 2010" by clicking here. How many of these physicians do you know? I've had the opportunity to personally connect with some of these individuals.

If you're interested in becoming a leading physician executive, then I'd encourage you to get involved with the ACPE (American College of Physician Executives). You'll notice that the CEO of the ACPE, Dr. Barry Silbaugh, is on that list of 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives. Speaking of ACPE, I look forward to seeing some of you at the annual ACPE meeting at the end of this month in Washington D.C. I'll be providing some blogging coverage of that meeting.

  3. CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System
  4. Holy Name Hospital
  5. Sage Products
  6. Memorial Healthcare System

  16. South Dayton Acute Care Consultants
  17. Buena Vista Regional Medical Center
  18. Saint Francis Medical Center
  19. Indiana Regional Medical Center
  20. Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center
I'm not entirely sure how they conduct their surveys, but it's always interesting to see their list each year. The study is sponsored by the Studer Group (Studer Group is an outcomes based health care consulting firm devoted to teaching evidence-based tools and processes that organizations can immediately use to create and sustain outcomes in service and operational excellence).

The list above categorizes each employer as either a provider or a supplier (I've bolded the suppliers in the list above since you're more likely to find non-clinical opportunities in that type of setting). 6 out of the top 20 are suppliers. The #1 company is a supplier. Are you considering a move out of the "provider" group and into the "supplier" group?
