Books on medical informatics

The other day, a medical student asked me if I could recommend any good medical informatics books on Amazon.com. Given that many current books are quite old, they may have some sound principles in them, but the world of medical informatics is evolving so quickly that it's hard to keep up with all the changes. Well, here are 4 books that should help you get started:

  • Medical Informatics: Practical Guide for the Healthcare Professional Third Edition ~ Robert E. Hoyt
  • Implementing an Electronic Health Record System (Health Informatics) ~ James M. Walker MD
  • Electronic Health Records, Second Edition ~ Jerome Carter
  • Electronic Health Records, Fourth Edition ~ Margret K. Amatayakul
You'll also find some great books on HIMSS.org, but if you're like me and you have some credit on Amazon.com, then you'll probably want to purchase your books from Amazon.
