Science Shaping Our World (SHOW) is an ongoing seminar and networking series that highlights areas of life science research possessing significant application potential. Our mission is to bring together researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, investors, technology and business professionals, in a setting where they can gain exposure and insight into the life science advancements changing our world. Further, we seek to promote active inter and cross-disciplinary networking toward fostering the creation of opportunities in Life Science.
November’s SHOW will focus on the role of academics in drug discovery. Particularly, we will be discussing how the relationship between academia and industry is evolving relative to bridging the gap between the research bench and commercialization. Further, we will focus on the Laboratory for Drug Discovery in Neurodegeneration (LDDN) which was established in 2001 as a model for how academia can apply its research findings to drug discovery especially in diseases and approaches that are not commonly found in the pharmaceutical industry.
The LDDN has developed a strategy which complements the efforts in industry and has an established track record of progressing projects along the drug discovery pathway, from assay development and high-throughput screening through medicinal chemistry on lead compounds and testing candidate drugs in animal models of disease. The unique aspects of establishing academic drug discovery will be discussed with specific case studies highlighting specific projects.
Please join us for an evening of science, technology, and networking. Event sign-in begins at 6:00 PM at the Microsoft New England Research & Development Center. Event pre-registration is free and required for event admittance. Presentation and discussion will follow from 6:30 – 7:30 PM. Following the presentation, you are invited to join us for networking and further discussion with the speakers. Light food and refreshments will be provided.
