MedPageToday has posted an article about the costs of re-entering clinical medicine after a physician leaves for an extended period of time. The definition of "extended period of time" varies for each state medical board and many state boards make it very challenging to re-enter the practice of medicine after you have transitioned into a full-time non-clinical career.
The Primary Care Physician Re-entry Act has been proposed before Congress by Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.).
