Expand your health IT experience by participating in a HIMSS committee

People often ask, "How do I break into the health information technology industry? How do I get started?" If you don't have any formal experience working in health IT, perhaps you can gain some experience and make some valuable connections by participating in a HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems) committee.

I'll be attending HIMSS next month and I look forward to networking with other physicians who have a strong interest (or career) in health IT. If you're going to be there, then make sure to let me know so that we can find a time to meet.

HIMSS Annual Call for Committee Applications open Jan. 3, 2011 through March 4, 2011 (click here for more information)

HIMSS opens its annual call for volunteers to serve on a committee for the 2011-12 fiscal years. Service on a HIMSS Committee focused on specific settings and constituencies within healthcare IT and key industry topics, is an excellent opportunity for professional development, networking and active engagement.

Committee participation is open to all individual and corporate HIMSS Members who are not serving in other leadership positions within the Society and have been a member for at least the past 12 consecutive months.
