ABOUT MCKINSEY & COMPANY, AND OUR HEALTHCARE PRACTICE:

McKinsey and Company is a global management consulting firm with 100 offices in over 60 different countries. We work across the private, public and social sectors, with leading, innovative clients to significantly improve their performance. About half of McKinsey consultants come from non-business backgrounds, and about half of those are MDs or PhDs. Currently, there are over 1700 healthcare-focused consultants at McKinsey.

Within healthcare, our work is extremely diverse in nature and ranges from developing pre-clinical drug discovery strategies for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, to helping global non-profits and state governments develop their strategic approach to health crises, to helping large medical centers develop best-in-class clinical quality systems.

Our work is global in nature with projects taking place in offices across North America, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Consultants often find that they have the opportunity to do work in healthcare in countries outside of the United States if they wish.

Healthcare clients include:
Global public health entities: Major non-governmental organizations (e.g., The World Health Organization, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Clinton Global Initiative, the United Nations), national governments (including China and the UK,) and leading public health foundations
Payor/providers: Leading academic medical centers, US hospital systems, governments (e.g., National Health System in the UK), major pharmacy benefit managers, and managed care systems
Private equity funds: Top U.S.and European private equity firms
Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Device and Diagnostic Companies: Nearly all of the largest pharmaceutical companies. Most of the major biotechnology, device and diagnostic companies
