Dr. Lawrence Riddles named president of ACPE Board of Directors

Congratulations to all the new ACPE board members!

TAMPA – (April 27, 2012) The American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) today announced the selection of the new members and officers of the 2012-13 Board of Directors, including the appointment of Dr. Lawrence Riddles, MD, MBA, CPE, FACS, FACPE, as ACPE president and chairman of the board.

Also selected as officers are Mark Werner, MD, CPE, FACPE, who will serve as vice-president, and Lynn Helmer, MD, MBA, FACP, CPE, FACPE, secretary-treasurer. New board members are Hoda Asmar, MD, MBA, CPE, FACP, FACHE, FACPE; Mark Browne, MD, MMM, FAAP, FACPE; and Jack Smith, MD, MMM, CPE, FACPE.



Dr. Riddles previously served as vice-president and secretary of the board. His one-year term as president began April 27 during the 2012 ACPE Annual Meeting in San Francisco, Calif.

Dr. Riddles recently retired as Command Surgeon, United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), Scott AFB, IL, where he achieved the rank of colonel and served as the principal medical advisor to the Commander, USTRANSCOM. He ensured maximum wartime readiness and combat support capability of the global patient movement system within the Department of Defense transportation network and advised other combatant command surgeons on patient movement issues.
Dr. Riddles received his Air Force commission in 1977 after earning his electrical engineering degree through the ROTC Program at Tulane University. He completed his master’s degree in electrical engineering at Columbia University, NY, in 1978. Dr. Riddles earned his doctorate in medicine in 1982 from the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences School of Medicine in Bethesda, MD. In 1999, he received his MBA from George Washington University, Washington, DC.
During his military career, Dr. Riddles held positions as staff general surgeon, general surgery department chief, chief of surgical services, and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine.
He has been an ACPE member since 1996.

ACPE is the nation's oldest and largest medical management educational association for physicians. Its members include chief executive officers, chief medical officers, vice presidents of medical affairs, medical directors and other physician leaders. The College has grown exponentially in the 37 years since it was founded, from 64 members to more than 10,000.
